Prayers for Peace with Dhyana Devi & Marleny Franco

Monday, July 17, (and third Monday each month) 7:15 – 8:30 pm By Donation

Join us as we pray for world peace using shantih sanskirt mantras from the Vedas and the Upanishads. Mantras are a way to focus our minds, and through that focus along with the sounds, we produce and have the capacity to manifest a different reality. Mantras are very powerful as all of creation starts with sound. Therefore, let’s put out the sound of peace by chanting: We will begin with a short meditation followed by peace chanting, a world peace visualization, and short kirtan. NEW! $5 Meditation for Beginners   Sundays, 12:00 pm $5 cash at the door

It sounds so easy. Just sit and do nothing. Anyone who has tried it for even a few minutes realizes our thinking has other ideas; it has a mind of its own. Jon Kabat-Zinn defines a beginner as anyone who has been practicing less than thirty years. Every week rain or shine join us to settle in and learn how to drop in to the present moment. As if your life depended on it. Because it does. Meditation for Beginners shows you to find relief in the gaps in your incessant stream of thinking. Step by step. Moment by moment. Live in a friendly relationship to the now instead of being at war with it. On the cushion and throughout the day. Beginning and experienced meditators alike find loving support each week. Princeton Center for Yoga & Health, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman, NJ 08558. 609-924-7294. www.princetonyoga.com   deborah@princetonyoga.com

NEW! $5 Pranayama & Meditation

Mondays, 11:00 am, Tuesdays 12:10 pm. $5 cash at the door

Go beyond asana to cover the deeper aspects of yoga, especially pranayama and meditation. Class begins with Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation), explore pranayama techniques and end with meditation. It will provide a steady, safe opening for students giving stability and clarity in the physical, mental, and spiritual realms. Pranayama is a central practice in traditional yoga practice. It uses the breath, balancing of subtle energy patterns, energetic cleansing and locks (bandhas) and is a gateway into the deep states of concentration and meditation. Take your practice to a deeper level! Princeton Center for Yoga & Health, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman, NJ 08558. 609-924-7294. www.princetonyoga.com   deborah@princetonyoga.com

From the Inside Out with special guest Alexandria Crow

July 29-30.  Whole weekend: $180/$$150 pre-paid by 7/15 Single Workshop: $55/$50 pre-paid by 7/15

Spend a weekend learning about the practice of yoga by looking at the inner workings of yogic philosophy, the body, and the mind so that the practice becomes personal, effective and wise.

The practice of yoga is an individual journey that is mostly taught in group format these days. In order to work within the current context with wisdom students must look deeply at their body and mind as it relates to each and every class and all with the philosophy of yoga as a practice at the root.

Why Pose and How We Pose – The Deeper Layers Saturday, July 29 – 12:30 to 3:00 pm

Why do we do asana? What are we trying to learn and/or access in these postures? In this lecture/discussion we will look at the philosophy behind a yoga practice and how to bring that consciousness and understanding to the physical practice. This awareness when layered upon the poses makes for a complete practice that can bring about transformation and growth both in the physical body and one’s approach to how they live.

Discover how the nervous system affects the body and its range of motion. Students will set a baseline of their personal range of motion and skeletal structure both before and after the transition their nervous system into the parasympathetic system. In addition we will look at the basic biomechanics of all the joint regions in the body in relation to the most common shapes performed in class and discuss the general amount of range that can be expected out of each joint region and what to do if there is limitations.

Feet, Legs, Knees, Hips and Spine

Saturday, July 29 – 3:30 to 6:00 pm

Wrists, Elbows and Shoulders

Sunday, July 30 – 12:30 to 3:00 pm

Asana can and does injure students’ wrists, elbows and shoulders far too often, but it’s something that can be avoided. There are some basic skeletal issues that need to be understood in relation to the upper extremities and shoulders as they impact poses where body weight is placed on the hands. Knowing about these issues as well as how the shoulder functions are vital to properly setting up risky weight bearing poses.

Shoulders and Spine

Sunday, July 30 – 3:30 to 6:00 pm
