Princeton Center for Yoga & Health Celebrates 15 Years

Princeton Center for Yoga & Health, the first yoga studio in the Princeton area, celebrates its 15th Anniversary on Saturday, September 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. with Celebrate! 108 – an outdoor workshop practicing 108 Sun Salutations. Led by instructor Jeannine Dietz, the workshop will be offered at no charge and will be followed by light refreshments with studio founder/director Deborah Metzger.

Princeton Yoga is located at the Montgomery Professional Center, 50 Vreeland Drive, Suite 506, in Skillman, just off 518 West and one half mile from Route 206.  For more details, call 609/924-7294 or visit
www.princetonyoga.com.

Metzger, who trained at the Kripalu Center in Massachusetts, opened Princeton Yoga in 1996 when yoga was still “exotic” in the northeast. Fifteen years later, Princeton Yoga has been recognized as one of New Jersey’s top five traditional yoga studios (New Jersey Life) and offers over 50 classes seven days a week taught by roughly 40 certified instructors. Embracing all yoga traditions, the Center has trained and featured superb yoga teachers, some of whom have gone on to open their own studios or teach classes at health clubs in the area.

“Fifteen years ago I set out to create a warm, inviting environment in which to explore different paths to health, healing and personal growth,” says Metzger. “Today, thanks to the community’s support, we’ve become an oasis of calm and comfort serving the greater Princeton area and much of Central Jersey. As I look to the future, I am dedicated to keeping the Center the region’s premiere quality yoga studio that our community deserves and has come to love.”

Princeton Yoga offers the largest variety of classes in the area, including therapeutically oriented programs and popular daily classes like Hatha Yoga, Hot Yoga, Power/Ashtanga Yoga, Kripalu Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Pre and Post Natal Yoga, teacher trainings and a packed schedule of workshops and events hosted by renowned health and wellness experts.

At Celebrate! 108, students will practice 108 Sun Salutations, the traditional opening to a yoga practice, with breaks. The sequence moves from Mountain Pose to a forward fold to high plank to low plank to Upward Dog to Downward Dog. The number “108” is considered sacred and has ritual significance in Hindu and yoga traditions, signifying the wholeness of existence and the number that connects the Sun, Moon and Earth.  According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, in India and 108 marma points, or sacred places, on the body.
