Symposium Celebrating the Care Givers Set for November 20, 2010

Symposium Celebrating the Care Givers Set for November 20th
“Helping Care Givers to Meet the Challenges of Caring for an Aging Population”

November is Home Health Care Month.  Today millions of Baby Boomers are part of the
“sandwich generation.”  They are simultaneously caring for elderly or aging parents while at the
same time raising their children.  With nearly 20% of the U.S. population over the age of 65 by the
year 2030, this is a reality that more and more families will face in the near future.  Most people are
not prepared for the demands of being a care giver.  As James Collymore, says, about his
experience when his 80 year old mother had a stroke,  “I had no idea what to do or where to start
but I had to figure it out quickly; they were releasing my mother from the hospital.”  So many others
find themselves faced with the same situation.

Meet  Mr.  Collymore, Shirley Satterfield,  Sharon Nemeth  and Janice Love and join them
in a conversation about the lessons learned as care givers both from the family perspective and the
professional care.  A conversation on resources follows. Led by Rosemarie Valentine of Care One,
Beverly Henderson, Manager, Mercer Street Friends, Home Health Care Division, Susan Hoskins
of Princeton Senior Resources, Gabrielle Strich of Strich Law, Elder Care Attorney, Martha
Gunning, Assist. Professor Counseling, MCCC Program in Mortuary Science and Licensed Funeral
Director and Valicia Rafferty, LIFE St. Francis, these professionals present resources for all
economic levels.  The symposium features Keynote Speaker Eilene Doremus, Executive Director,
Mercer County Office on Aging and well known advocate on issues concerning the elderly in our
community.

Join the Institute of Wonderful Women Working for Empowerment and care givers
throughout the Greater Mercer County Community to learn valuable firsthand information about
care giving, leading information and resources from professional caregivers and gaps in services
and how to overcome them.  A donation of $25 reserves your seat for Celebrating the Care Givers,
